It’s in the leafy neighbourhood of Moorooka in Brisbane, that Zephyr + Stone – an interior design studio run by Ania Forster – was engaged to create a timeless, understated and sophisticated home in 2022.
The main objective in this design was to combine products and finishes in shades of grey, to achieve a sophisticated and understated design, so aptly the project was named #fiftyshades in reference to the book ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’.

In the bathrooms, the key challenge was to find a drainage solution suitable for the length of the showers in the house. The interior design studio tends to specify large tiles in the showers to maintain a seamless, minimalist and modern look and feel, and it was paramount that the team was able to incorporate a long grate along one end to ensure they could get the desired fall to the waste while avoiding numerous tile cuts. Similarly, it was crucial for all elements of the fit-out – including details like drainage – to form part of a cohesive, meticulously designed palette, and work in harmony with other elements of the interior.
Lauxes Grates, being one of Australia’s leading brands in premium water waste drainage solutions, was a natural choice for Zephyr & Stone. Ania Forster of Zephyr & Stone, was first recommended Lauxes Grates products by one of her trades four years ago, and has been using them ever since.

Lauxes Grates products are also fully customisable and can be ordered up to a remarkable 5.6m length. This makes them perfect for a wall-to-wall finish in most bathrooms and showers, and works well with large tiles the design duo prefers to specify. Plus, the grates can be cut onsite to suit the space.
In this instance, Zephyr & Stone specified two STI21 grates to create long, linear wastes in three bathroom showers.
