For happy-go-lucky Jacques Jacobie, 23, motorbike riding was his passion. A young, fit, energetic boy from
Longreach with a zest for life was involved in a motorbike accident in June 2020 that changed his and his
family’s lives forever. Sustaining severe spinal injuries, doctors believe Jacques may never walk again.
Despite ongoing medical bills, traveling to and from Brisbane for treatment and ongoing therapy, a support
line was set up to assist in taking a small amount of financial burden off his parents Elaine and Christo during
this difficult time. This is when the community of Longreach came together to help.
Undertaking a house remodel, one of the ongoing issues he was faced, was having a bathroom accessible to
accommodate his needs and enable him the opportunity to be at home and begin the long journey of rehab
and treatments.
Lauxes Grates were made aware of Jacques accident through Smith Bros Construction (Longreach) who sent
an email regarding the purchase of a linear grate for the bathroom renovation. Marty (Smith) did not ask for a
donated grate however, when the opportunity presented itself, Lauxes was more than happy to make a
difference and offer their support in ensuring the Jacobie family home would be suitable for Jacques when he
was released from hospital.
“To be able to offer a small donation by way of grate from Lauxes and see it make such a huge different to
Jacques ongoing care and treatment is incredible. He’s a real champion and it’s wonderful to play a small part
in his incredible journey both now and for years to come.” Sue of Lauxes Grates said.
“We hope this small token by way of donation helps Jacques and his family on the road to recovery and
appreciate the builder reaching out to Lauxes Grates to be part of the project to have his home fitted out in
time for Christmas 2020.”
The team at Lauxes Grates wish Jacques and his family all the best for their road ahead. At Lauxes we love
being part of these amazing stores and are always ready to give back to and assist our communities during
times of need.
